Waiting to seek help prolongs suffering

Did you know? Research shows that distressed couples wait an average of 6 years to seek professional help from licensed therapists. During that time, more hurt accumulates between the couple, and the distance between them grows. Often, a Gottman term called negative sentiment override kicks in and partners lose the ability to give one another the benefit of the doubt. After this occurs, its often couples either pull away further from one another, or have increased conflict. Seeking couples therapy early not only reduces suffering, it leads to better outcomes.
